Post-Abortion Recovery: Addressing Headaches & Concerns

Question
Hi Vanessa,
About 8 days ago I had a surgical abortion. The procedure went completely fine and I had little to no bleeding. After 3 days after I had a little more bleeding, but nothings too terrible. I also did not have very bad cramps either. Now I am getting more headaches than I used to. I am nervous that I perhaps have an infection (although I really have no other symptoms). I did take all of the antibiotics they prescribed (doxycycline) and took it at the right time every day. I am worried because they said headaches are a sign of infection. I just don't want anything bad to happen. What do you think I should do? My post procedure check up will be sometime Monday or Tuesday of next week.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Jenn

Please try not to worry even though it is hard. I was so worried after my abortion that something was wrong or would go wrong. I really dont think anything bad will happen, you could be getting more headaches as a result of the abortion. Your body has been through a trauma plus the stress and worry you have also could contribute.

If you had an infection some of the very common signs are a fever, stomach cramping and passing clots. I am not aware of a headache being a sign but maybe you could just give the clinic a quick call and ask them what they think, they should be more than happy to help you.

My personal opinion is that I think the headaches could just be stress and worry and I think that because you have no other signs, especially a fever ( a fever shows your body is trying to fight an infection) you will be ok to wait until your checkup but like I said to ease your mind give the clinic a call.

Hope this helped. take care, vanessa
