Hormonal Rod Implantation: Safety, Efficacy & Menstrual Cycle - Expert Insights

Question
Hi I'm 24 and in a monogamous relationship but not ready to have kids for awhile. I am currently on Junel 1/20 oral contraceptive but have been considering getting the hormonal rod that can be implanted in the arm for two years. I have a lot of questions about the safety and efficacy of this. Would the hormone levels be comparable to the level I am getting from the low dose birth control? Would I still menstruate? Are there harmful side effects (ie. osteoporosis related to low levels of calcium absorption?) Thank you for any help you can offer!

Answer
Hi Michelle,

Thanks for your question. Is it implanon that you are talking about?
If so, I don't recommend this. I don't recommend any unnatural or horomonal birth control methods.

The implanon scares me as you have no control over it. A doctor puts it in and you can't take it out. It can only be removed by a doctor.
There are several side effects listed, some serious. Your periods will be abnormal. I would like to talk to you more about it by email if you like. I have so much to say to tell you everything in this post.

There are even risks when you have the implanon removed. I can talk to you about other methods so email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com
Hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
