Irregular Periods After Birth Control: Causes, Provera & Fertility

Question
Hello,

I was on birthcontrol for 1 and half year because i had a PCOS. but i did ultrasound last December it says now i don't have any cysts on my ovaries. i stopped my BP on December after that i got my period on January. but since then i have not gotten my period back since two month now. so I visited my OBYGYN , she prescribed me PROVERA to induce my period.
my question is will PROVERA help me to get regular period to get pregnant , because now we are planning for baby.
and will PROVERA help me to ovulate regularly as now i dot have any cysts on my ovaries.

and can you also please let me know multivitamins and folic acids pill which help to get pregnant.

Thanks,

Answer
Hello Supriya,
The cysts on ovaries aren't very important in women with PCOS.  The important thing is lack of ovulation, and when a woman doesn't ovulate over time, cysts tend to develop.  But the cysts are the result, not the cause of not ovulating.  The fact that you haven't had a period since January means that you haven't ovulated since January.  Provera will usually bring on a period, but it doesn't help you to ovulate.  For that you'll probably need another pill called Clomid, which you can take for 5 days each month to cause ovulation.  Talk to your doctor about taking Clomid.  For vitamins, usually any multivitamin containing 400 micrograms of folic acid is all you need, one daily starting before pregnancy.  Best wishes.
