Understanding 'Subatrophic Mucosa' in Pap Smear Results: What Does It Mean?

Question
Hello!
On my last Papanicolau test, I have got the following result: "Subatrophic mucosa".
I would like to know what it means and if it is something that should be treated. I am 39 years old and under hormonal treatment with androcur and estreva.
Sorry if I got the English terms wrong, it is not my mother tongue.
Thanks in advance,
Alice

Answer
I don't think it means very much.  I've never seen the term on a Pap smear.  Atrophic means lack of growth, which is common when there is a lack of estrogen.  Since you're taking estrogen, I suspect it may be due to the androcur, which is an antiandrogen (suppresses male hormone).  Sub means under or below.  I haven't seen it used with atrophic, and I'm not sure what it means.  I think it's a descriptive term for the cells seen on the Pap smear, and I don't think it's anything bad or that needs to be treated.  Unless you're having problems with thin tissue in the vaginal area, I would ignore it.
