Hormonal Imbalance & Fertility: Alternatives to Birth Control

Question
I am 29 and I was on birth control pills for a long time to correct irregular periods. I stopped taking them about a year ago and I started to get acne and very oily skin in the t-zone area. I was told by my gen. practice dr. that it's because my hormones are out of whack. Anyway I am trying to get pregnant and I want to know is there something I can take to balance my hormones that is not the pill?

Answer
It sounds like you may have polycystic ovary syndrome, which results in not ovulating regularly and increased male hormone.  The best way to get your hormones normal is by getting your ovaries to ovulate.  If you're overweight, losing weight can often do it.  If not, there are pills called Clomid that you can take each month to induce ovulation.  I would see a good OB/GYN for help with this.  Best wishes.
