Late Period with Novella 28: What to Expect? - Swedish Healthcare Advice

Question
Hi!

I've been taking birth control (Noveletta 28) since January and not once have i missed a pill. I might have taken it 2-3 hours late, or early than usual, but ive never been more than 6 hours late with a pill. Ive never had problems with the pill. I was supposed to get my period Sunday (or thats when the sugar tablets start) and now its tuesday, almost wednsday here in sweden, and i havent got a single drop of blood. Should I worry just yet? Or is it normal to be a few days late? From what ive understood, with birth control its supposed to make your period regular, and its uncommon for late periods...but maybe i misunderstood. any information would be great!

Thanks! Brittany

Answer
Hi Brittany,

Most women get lighter periods on the pill, and sometimes they get so light that they don't come at all.  That's probably what has happened with you.  As long as you don't miss a pill, pregnancy is unlikely.  If your period doesn't come, I would do a pregnancy test just to be sure.  As long as it's negative, I would keep taking the pills as usual.  If your next period doesn't come, you could ask your doctor to switch your pills, and your periods would likely start again.  However, it's not harmful to have no periods on the pill, and some women prefer it.
