Missed Pill & Birth Control: Understanding Your Protection with Alesse 28

Question
Hi, I'm on Alesse 28, and have been for a few months now. Last week, I realized that the pill I had taken Sunday evening was not my Sunday evening pill, but rather my Saturday evening pill, meaning that I had missed a pill somewhere in my pack and not realized it. (So there was a skip in my birth control dosage. Instead of taking two pills in one day to make up for the lost pill, I had just continued taking one pill a day until I realized my mistake a few days later.)

Basically, I took my Saturday pill on Sunday, thinking it was my Sunday pill, took my Sunday pill Monday morning after realizing my mistake, and then took my Monday pill as scheduled. Am I still protected by my birth control, even though I did not take my forgotten pill the same day it was forgotten? If not, when will my birth control be effective again?

Thanks so much for your help!

Answer
You're still considered protected when you miss one pill, although not quite as protected as if you had not missed any.  Pregnancy is very unlikely after missing only one pill, even if it wasn't taken the next day.  Experts don't recommend using extra birth control when only one pill is missed.  You're best protected never missing pills, but you're still mostly protected if you miss one pill.
