Continuous Birth Control Pills & Endometriosis: Understanding the Effects

Question
I am on continous bcp for treatment of endometriosis.(I an sorry you are against bcp's but some people need them just to function and relieve pain) I do not get a period I take no breaks or placebos. This is my only option to live without severe abdominal pain. What does it do to your body to not get a period for so long(years). This is my only chance I have to preserve my fertility and control my pain.

Answer
The period you have on the pill isn't a real period.  The pill is suppressing ovulation which is why your condition is relieved.  The estrogen hormone is the one causing the problem.  There are many problem from being on the pill for a long period of time but you have to weigh them against the seriousness of your endometriosis.  If you read the package insert or the information from the pharmacist you will have a general idea of the problems you can develop from long term use of the pill.
