Methotrexate: Long-Term Effects & Concerns - Expert Insights

Hello I'm writing from Canada.

A number of years ago I had a medical abortion using Methotrexate (50mg injected). Everything went fine and I went on to have a healthy baby a few years after that.

My concern is recently I learned that Methotrexate is a very powerful medication used in cancer patients and for Rheumotoid arthritis. I'm concerned about the long term health effects of this medication. Can you provide any insight?

You're correct that methotrexate is a powerful medication used for cancer patients and others.  We continue to use it regularly ectopic pregnancy as a way to avoid surgery.  There are no after effects that we know of.  Your use in the past should have no effect on you now or in the future.
