Fetal Development & Legal Status: A Neutral Overview

Question
I need help with a question I am confronted with. Preferably the answer needs to be completely neutral, and factually based(if possible with the literature reference).

Is the fetus just human life, or is it A human being? If it is just human life, when Does it become A human being?

I have also heard the argument: The fetus(mainly earlier stages) is a part of the womans body, Or is it A seperate being?

Answer
The best answer I can give you is to go back to the basic's of pregnancy.......

The earliest a baby can be born and survive without the mother is currently 24 weeks into the pregnancy.  Before then should the baby be born, even with medical intervention it would not live.

So I beleive in terms of your second question, up until the 24th week that it is a part of the mother's body not its own being. Since it cannot and would not survive without living in its mother.

As for the first question. It really depends on how you define living. To me living is breathing, and maintaining a heart beat on ones own. Without any help. If the placenta is torn, or not intact the baby can do neither of these.
I beleive that this one is something that each person must decide for themselves.
