Birth Control Pills and Misconceptions About Abortion: What You Need to Know
QuestionHi, I was wondering if the birth control pill causes mini-abortions? I've heard it causes the uterus to slough it's tissues; therefore, causing the small fetus to be aborted...I've also heard the pill causes a woman not to ovulate. Thanks!
AnswerRilla,
I personally do not consider the pill as a type of abortion. You have a good question though, and one that I've not been asked before. My understanding is that the pill is a medical means that stops ovulation from occurring, therefore a pregnancy cannot occur (if the birth control pill is taken as directed). There is a time period when first taking the pill that another type of contraception needs to be used also.
Thanks for a good question.
