Abortion Pill Failure: Understanding Why It Didn't Work & Next Steps

QUESTION: Dear Dr.
As soon as i got to know that I was pregnant which is after my period was late by 4 days only, I took the abortion pill. According to the information I got from the internet, the success rate should be very high since I didn't wait for long yet i got nothing at all..no bleeding..no signs of cramps..nothing at all..as if i didn't take it and i did the pregnancy test the next day and I was still pregnant..what's going on..why didn't it work out? Should I take the pill again? if yes ..and if it didn't work again..does that mean that I have a damaged fetus and I should abort surgically..I am going insain..please help

It sounds like the abortion pill did not work.  What pills did you take and how did you take the pills? Did you get them from a doctor's office? Did you get an ultrasound or blood tests? What were the results?  It is difficult for me to advise you without the complete medical picture.

Sorry I am just panicing..I didn't do a blood test or an ultrasound..i was so scared..all i know now is I did 3 pregnancy home tests and they gave me a positive result plus my period is a week and a half late. I got the abortion pill of the internet and its called misoprostal..i took it orally..i can't go anywhere cuz where i come from abortion is a taboo and totally illegal... i know it is risky to do it on my own but i have no where to go to.. plus i don't think am far in my pregnancy to worry that much...what do you think...am panicing like crazy

Misoprostol is the same as cytotec, and can cause damage to the developing embryo.  You are in a difficult situation.  You can try to end it, by taking the correct dose of misoprostol.  Where do you live?  I can see if I know of someone to help you.  

If you want to try the misoprostol again, make sure you do the correct protocol. Look at the website, earlyabortion.com, and go to cytotec abortion, and there is a link to how to take misoprostol correctly to end a pregnancy.  If you took it orally, it is unlikely to work.  You should also make sure you are getting misoprotol - can you get it from a pharmacy instead of the internet?
