QuestionHello, I went with my friend today to an abortion clinic. She went to terminate her pregnancy. The clinic informed her that she was 5 wks pregnant, but they could not do the abortion due to her having a fibroid. They did not say how big the fibroid was, but told her that she would need to see a GYN. My question is why would she need to see a Gyn and will she still be able to terminate the pregnancy? Is this a common practice with women who want to terminate but have a fibroid?
AnswerHello, Pam,
A fibroid can be a serious issue. I don't blame them for not wanting to do an abortion on your friend. I think telling her to go see a GYN is a wise thing to tell her.
Here is more information about fibroids:

I don't know how common it would be, though, for a clinic to tell a woman to go to a GYN. Most of the time, these clinics don't worry about any possible medical issues; they just do an abortion. If I were being asked to do an abortion on your friend, I'd want her to see a GYN, too.
Why does your friend want an abortion so badly? Is there a possibility that it's not her own choice? If I can help her in any way to consider the issues and find the best answer, please let me know.
