Ovulation and Pregnancy After a Chemical Abortion: What You Need to Know
QuestionI recently had a chemical abortion in which I was given a shot and some pills to terminate my pregnancy. I began bleeding on a monday and stopped bleeding on Wednesday. On Friday my boyfriend pre ejaculated on my vagina without penetration. I am very worried. Is it possible for me to get pregnant two days after I stopped bleeding? I took an ovulation test the following morning but I wasn't ovulating.
AnswerDear Arleen,
It is possible but unlikely that you got pregnant without penetration. Yes, you can ovulate right away after an abortion, and even while you are bleeding. Unfortunately, it is a very common mistake to think that you can't. Ovulation kits are not the most reliable. I would recommend that you take Plan B (emergency contraception, morning after pill). You can take it up to 5 days after unprotected sex, but it is more effective the sooner you take it. You can now get it at most pharmacies. This will decrease your chances of getting pregnant.
I hope this is helpful,
