Period Delay Pills After Abortion: Risks & Considerations

Question
hi I had an abortion about 3 week ago and my question is that can I take period delaying pills as I am getting married next week (first week of august)?

Can you please tell me if there would be any complications in the future and suggest any other care to be taken?

Answer
Hi, Sara,

Congratulations on the upcoming marriage!

I'm not clear on why you got an abortion, since you are getting married so soon anyway. Perhaps you can help me understand.

Abortion is dangerous, and always causes damage. Nobody can know what kind of damage until it happens to them.

I will offer the observation that you are apparently asking me to prescribe a pill to delay your period. I can't do this. I would be practicing medicine without a license, and I could get into a lot of trouble. I will also offer the observation that I tried the same thing you want to try. I went to a doctor, who prescribed pills to attempt to delay my period, because my daughter was getting married. It didn't work. And the aftermath was very undesirable. I had a medical problem, and I continued to take the medication hoping it would help. It didn't. I ended up having surgery. Your wisest course of action would be to see a doctor about this. But the more you do to your body, the more risk you run. There are significant risks that you could experience from having the abortion. If you want me to go into that, let me know. Also let me know what kind of abortion you had, and how far along you were.

Please take care.
