QuestionI'm 25 years old. i took the abortion pill misoprostol 7 days ago. i was about to be 7 weeks pregnant. i took 600mg vaginally and 600mg orally, at the same time suggested by a doctor. about 5 hours later i started spotting and severe cramping. a bit later the pain and bleeding was increasing. heavy blood clots was release from the vagina. i assumed that it was successful. by 8 hours of taking misoprostol the bleeding and cramping totally stopped. two days later i started spotting again. couple days later the bleeding is heavier and cramping too. i cant see my doctor because he schedule an appointment for atleast 2 weeks after the abortion. its been 7 days the cramps is worst, severe bleeding with no blood clots and mostly when i sit in the toilet. its all of this normal??? I've been resting since then and had no sex at all after the abortion.
AnswerHello, angelina,
First of all, having an abortion is not normal. This heavy bleeding is very common, unfortunately. It is also dangerous. You need to be checked out immediately. In the meantime, if you can get some cayenne (a supplement herb, actually a spice) into your system, it may help. Have someone get you some from the health food store. If you don't have a health food store, eat some very spicy food with red hot pepper in it. Continue to eat this food periodically until the bleeding is under control.
I am appalled that abortionists are still giving misoprostol at all. The manufacturer says a pregnant woman should never take it. This is because it can cause this heavy bleeding, which is causing women to bleed to death. It can cause the uterus to rupture. With heavy cramping, that's a concern. But even worse, they told you to use it vaginally. That puts you at risk for toxic shock syndrome, which can kill within hours. This is caused by Clostridium sordellii. Normally not a life-threatening organism, in this case, it can be deadly. If you start to develop any symptoms that make you suspect infection (not including fever), get to the emergency room immediately. Have someone take you, and ask them to look for Clostridium sordellii. I don't know if they can treat fast enough to prevent death, but that's the best shot.
Also, you were really too far along for it to be guaranteed that it even worked. Usually, they will do a surgical abortion to complete it. This would be especially true if all you passed was blood and clots.
It is good you aren't having sex. You are at risk for infections as long as your uterus is open to the outside world, and you are bleeding. In the long run, unless you are married, you really should avoid sex anyway. Your partner owes it to you not to put you at risk like that. If you are married, you can learn to tell when you are fertile, and avoid having sex on fertile days. But if you are married, it is also perfectly reasonable to accept a baby. You can get help for any problems you face by going to the link I gave you below.
Like I said, you need immediate attention. Don't go back to the person who gave you the pills. Find someone who believes in medical ethics. Obviously, this person you went to does not. No ethical doctor would have done to you what you had done to you. You can find an organization near you that will make a recommendation by going here:

Please don't delay. Even if the heavy bleeding doesn't take your life, it could easily cause you to become very sick, and lower your resistance to infectious disease. Please let me know how you do. I will be praying for you.
