Post-Abortion Bleeding & Concerns: Seeking Medical Advice

Question
On april 3,I had a surgical abortion.Everything went fine.I bled for about 2 weeks. Then I bled again for about 1 week(until the 21st).On April 24 I went for the follow-up and the doctor said that everything was back to normal. With that assurance given to me;my husband and I decided to have sex on May 2.We did  use a condom and then he washed himself and we had sex again but he did not ejaculate at all-It was for just about 3 minutes. My problem is that i am feeling my breast so sensitive and having these abdominal cramps. So i am wondering if It might be the pregnancy hormones still present in my body or if I might be pregnant again.I did not get my period as yet for this month of may.If I am pregnant again I am not having another abortion even though I have other children.

Answer
Hello, Liz,

Condoms and pulling out don't work. One drop of semen is all it takes, and lots of men release one drop, even though they don't ejaculate. You might want to learn how to tell when you are fertile. You must chart faithfully, and you can't be using hormones. For more information, go here:

Good for you, that you won't consider another abortion! Having other children isn't a reason not to have another child. You may need to talk about your experience and work through the issues. If so, let me know, and what is on your mind. I am willing to talk to you. I'm sorry you made a decision you now regret. All too often, we don't know the full story; we don't know enough to make a really good decision. It's unlikely that the abortionist got your informed consent. They will rarely, if ever, discuss the emotional issues, or what kind of complications you might have. It is my understanding that women don't usually bleed much after surgical abortion, so the fact you bled so much concerns me. Also, if I were in your position, I wouldn't go back to the person who did the abortion, for any reason. I have learned from personal experience that their medical judgment cannot be trusted.

As for pregnancy, it is definitely possible, and if your breasts are sore, you might be. Have you tested for pregnancy? Abdominal cramps could be caused by your abortion, or some women will experience a slight sensation when the new baby implants. But I wouldn't expect real cramps unless there was something else wrong.

Please let me know how you do. I am here for you.
