Post-Abortion Itching & Rash: Causes & When to Worry

i am from the uk and had a surgical abortion 4 weeks ago. i had a normal amount of bleeding according to the doctors and no other unusual pain. however, in the last week, i have been itching quite a lot which has caused inflamation of the skin around my vagina. there is a small amount of yellow-y discharge but it has no smell. is this normal or something i should be worried about? thanks.

This could be due to a vaginal infection. The two most common types are bacterial vaginitis and candida vaginitis.  Bacterial vaginitis is due to an overgrowth of the normal flora.  It causes a fishy odor and can be treated with oral metronidazole or a vaginal preparation of metronidazole or clindamycin. Candida vaginitis is caused by yeast and is treat with an antifungal agent.  It causes a lot of Candida occurs after taking an antibiotic.
