Post-Abortion Concerns: Understanding Normal vs. When to Worry

Question
Hi,
I'm 20 and I just had an abortion on Monday, February 20th. The nurse there told me that passing clots is normal after the procedure. She also told me that they should be no bigger than a quarter. They've been fairly small but tonight I had one that was a lot bigger than a quarter. It was more long than anything else, but I was having bad cramps until it passed. I have bad anxiety and get myself worked up, but my mom and finance both said I was okay and it was normal. Is it normal? Am I okay? I'm so scared.
Thank you.

Answer
Passing one clot can be normal.  If you are having cramping take Motrin 800 mg every 6 hours ( 4 Advil).  If you pass clots that can be normal.  If it happens several times and they are still larger than a quarter, just call the facility.  They may want to see you for follow up.  Don't worry.  The cramping is normal.  It is the way the uterus which is a muscle clears out blood and clots by opening the cervix to allow passage.
