Post-Abortion Bleeding: What's Normal & When to Worry

I had an abortion 7 weeks ago at 6 weeks gestation. I bleed for one day and then did not bleed again for three or four days. When I started bleeding again, I bleed until 6 weeks after the abortion. It wasn't heavy bleeding like a period, more like spotting. I never needed to use a pad. I have yet to get a regular period yet.  I've read it can take up to 8 weeks. When should I be concerned?

It can take 8 weeks. We have our patients perform a urine pregnancy test at 6 weeks and if it is negative, we advise them it can take another 2 weeks to get their period.  If you are on a birth control method like the pill or the ring, it can be delayed.
