Understanding Post-Abortion Brown Discharge: What to Expect

At the end of October 2010 I had an abortion, and I am aware that brown discharge afterwards is normal. Since then my periods have become regular again and everything else has continued as normal and I had no complications or anything. However, since the first period I had afterwards and up to now I have for about 5 days before my period brown discharge. The discharge sometimes smells foul but in most cases does not. It also occcasionally will actually spot onto my underwear or a panty liner but in most cases only comes out when I wipe. However the last couple days of my period the tampon will come out mostly brown. There is no pain or itching so I always wondered about the color but was never really concerned. Is there any reason I should feel otherwise?
