Hip Flexor Pain from Lactic Acid: Massage & Stretching Solutions
QuestionI am a runner and also do "spinning" three times/week. The lactic acid build up around my hip flexors has gotten so bad it hurts to the touch. What kind of massage therapy should I seek to help with this? And will stretching help?
Michelle
AnswerHi Michelle,
Lactic acid is the first thing that the body burns when you start to exercise. The lactic acid is burned before the fat starts to burn off. Stretching definately helps, but I'm suspecting that lactic acid is not the problem, but your IT Band is. With your activities and not stretching properly it sounds like the band is too tight. You need to have the band "stripped". If you go to any therapeutic/deep tissue therapist they will know how to do it for you.
