Massage Therapy and Myoclonic Seizures: Considerations for Therapists

Question
I have a patient who experiences myclonic seizures, he seems to be doing good with massage, and I haven't found a contraindication to this with my research as of yet.  Do you have any input on this?

Answer
Dear Pam,

Sorry for the delayed response.

Myoclonic seizures is not contraindicated for massage therapy. However, you should find out from your client which nervous system disorder these seizures are a symptom of. That way you will be able to fully take into account their condition and create a more informed treatment plan. It's great that he is responding well to massage!

If the client is taking medication, just make sure you are aware of any side effects.

Best Wishes,
