QuestionI had surgery 6 weeks ago for a ruptured disc-4th and 5th vertabrae. They seem to think the surgery went ok. However they had a hard time getting thru my psoas muscle. I now have one very week leg and use a walker. Will PT and exercises help this? i am thinking I have a long road ahead of me. My pain however is much better than at first.
AnswerHello Burdelle,
When you feel like your body is ready, physical therapy will be very beneficial for you, but stretching too soon could cause more discomfort or further injury. I would ease into the stretches to restore your range of motion.
Physical Therapy will strengthen the muscles in the groin, pelvis, hip, lower back, buttock and leg and increase mobility. Also,
Massage will reduce pain, increase circulation and joint flexibility
to promote the healing process.
Hope this was helpful.
