Question Hi! I am writing a research paper for my college freshan English class. A requirement for my paper is documentation of an e-mail response from an expert on this website.
My topic of research is massage therapy, specifically muscle memory. Actually, I am not even sure if this is the correct terminology. I am interested in the emotional outbursts many people experience during massage. I have heard this been called muscle memory, if I am wrong, please correct me. I have heard that some people start crying when they're being massaged even though they were in a good mood, and they usually have no idea what they are crying about. Some one explained to me that this is because of muscle memory and we store emotions from certain memories in certain muscles in our body. Therfore, when these muscles are stimulated through massage, the emotions are released.
It would be extremely helpful if you could respond telling me your thoughts on this topic. If you have any clients that have experienced this, examples would also be helpful. It would also be wonderful if you could direct me to some promising sources where I could find even more information on this topic because I have truly been having a very hard time with my research. I know that I am asking for quite a lot of information but your help would truly be appreciated. Thank you for your time! :)
AnswerHi Jena,
In all honesty, normally I do not answer homework question, but in your case I've decided to provide you with a link to a website which, assuming you read the entire article, probably will give you the answer(s) you are looking for: http://www.ericfrancis.com/issues/0309/healingtouch.html
There is more available at www.google.com/advancedsearch when you type in words such as emotional release, massage, muscle memory, just for starters.
Hope that helps you,
