QuestionHello, I recently started a therapy course which involves practising swedish body massage on one another. i was feeling a bit sore & run down sfterwards & had a break out of spots all over my body (non contagious) & my lecturer said to ask my endocrine specialst if Im ok to have this massage as she thought it could interfere with the medication Im recieving?? Ive asked to speak to my specialist 3 months before my next qappt for clarity but they have said its impolite to ask such unneccessary questions when the doctors are so busy, so I booked in & asked my GP who said he doesnt know. I was wondering if you could shed any light on the situation please??
many thanks

AnswerHello Denise!
I'm terribly sorry to hear you got such a passive aggressive brush-off from your specialist's staff. They are supposed to be there to help!
Anyway, I can't really answer your question thoroughly without knowing what sort of medicine you are taking, but it is not unheard of for a massage to cause a hives like reaction. Medicines, allergies to the lubricants, and heavy pressure massage strokes can all lead to temporary redness or spots on the skin after a massage.
You said your course involves practising swedish body massage on one another. Was your practitioner a professional?
Hopefully your spots have gone away by now!
Best Wishes,
Mikey
