QuestionI have acrylic nails (for about 2 months now). I noticed that my suntan lotion is making my nails "gooey". I can't decide if it is just dissolving my top coat or my acrylics. Could you recommend a sunscreen that doesn't do that? Or at least tell me the ingredient that is causing that?
I have asked a few people and have Googled the topic, but to no avail. Thank you soooo much for having this Q&A service!!
AnswerUnfortunately, acrylics are not my field of expertise YET.
However, I will share what I do know on the subject as I frequently speak with other tech's who use acrylics.
Many sunscreens and house-hold cleaning products ARE harmful to acrylics and will cause them to breakdown.
AND to some nail polishes as well.
Without knowing specifically which brand of acrylics you have on hour nails, which polishes etc.... I can't tell you if it's the polish or the acrylic itself.
What I would advise is that you use a 'spray-on' sunscreen. That way, you avoid two problems:
1) service breakdown of the acrylic
2)yellowing of the acrylic (acrylics CAN be stained by such products whereas uv gels can NOT be.
I'm terribly sorry that I couldn't be of much more help than that BUT I do advise that you visit this link on my site, and inform yourself on acrylics to ensure that you ARE getting quality and NON-TOXIC acrylics AND that you're enhancements are being applied correctly so that you will not sustain damage to the natural nail that in some cases is PERMANENT.

Please feel free to contact me again for any further questions.
I'll be speaking to my fellow techs regarding this very situation and will hopefully have informatin soon.
