Teen Acne: Causes, Solutions & What You Need to Know

Question
Hi Caroline! (:

What brings me here today is my skin problems.
I am 14,have daily breakouts and don't really understand why:
I think I've read somewhere that sleeping with long sleeves will help to sharply reduce breakouts. So I am currently doing that. I usually never drink water (One of the reasons I think I have huge breakouts) and have a healthy diet but with, let's say, junk food five times a month. I think I should also mention that I have a 'greasy' tendency skin.
I daily clean my skin, and put anti acne cream on, but even with all those efforts I pretty much gain a new pimple every two days..! I don't know why this is happening, and it's litteraly ruining my life!..

If you have time, I would also appreciate tips to keep my skin zit free, and a fresh looking rosy-ish face.

I hope you can help!! (:
Regards,
Alexandra

Answer
Hello Alexandra,

There's no magical product that will give you the fresh looking rosy-ish face that you want and I strongly suspect the products you're using today are actually making things worse. But by working WITH your skin instead of against it, you can get the tone and radiance of your dream. Be patient, smart, thorough and disciplined. There are several factors which can trigger these breakouts and here are a few examples:
- you say you have a healthy diet, but we all have different notions of what healthy means
- you know you never drink water, so how do you expect your body to be able to move the toxins and cellular wastes out? what do you drink instead of water?
- your body is going through the hormonal tsunami of teenage which has a strong impact on your whole body and that includes your skin, so you may want to take supplements like black currant, borage or primrose oils (or a combination) to help your body its natural balance
- if you're taking prescription or OTC drugs regularly, they may trigger side effects like your breakouts. Talk to your doctor about it

You can get tips on how to heal your breakouts in this article:

Doing the Green Clay mask 2 or 3 times a week will greatly improve your skin. Use a tiny bit of Wild Musk Rose oil or Jojoba oil to moisturize and stay away from anything chemical. Don't try to strip your skin off any trace of oil, it will make things much worse. So stay away from harsh chemical cleansers. Use Lavender floral water to clean your skin and don't put any foundation for some time until your skin start looking better.

However, the bottom line is that you also need to detox while you're taking care of your skin topically. You can find more on detox here:

Unless you have a strong skin genetic problem, following my suggestions will clear your skin, just be patient.

I hope you find this answer helpful.
Have a beautiful day,
Take good care
