Understanding and Treating Bumpy Skin & Enlarged Pores

Question

Pic of face
Hello Expert,

I have combination skin towards the dry side. I used to not put moisturizer because I was ignorant and did not know how to take good care of my face. I have only started to put moisturizer nearly 2 months ago.

I have attached a picture on my face. I couldn't exactly tell what's the matter with my skin - I am getting alot small bumps (is that what we call them or skinheads or clogged pores?) all over my cheeks and I know I have enlarged pores and blackheads on my cheeks, t-zone. I have started to put on moisturizing masks every 2 days because I think my problematic skin are caused by dehydration or could it be makeup or something causing the bumps? I am not too sure how to identify a product is causing skin to breakout!

Please tell me if I am on the right track in clearing up my skin?

Many thanks for clearing up my doubts!

Answer
Hello Angel~

I am not a dermatologist, therefore it's difficult for me to determine what is causing your breakouts.  However, I do want to share this common response I give to anyone wanting to clear up their breakouts. The main things that contribute to breakouts are diet, bacteria and pore-clogging make-up. Here are some common tips I offer anyone with breakouts....

1) Diet. Drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water daily to help keep your skin clear.  A diet of fried foods, processed foods or one that's sugar-laden could also be a contributor.
2) Bacteria.  Proper cleansing with an exfoliating cleanser once daily can make a huge difference.  Touching your face excessively (talking with your hand propping up your chin, for instance) will contribute to breakouts.
3) Look for non-comedogenic make-up products - they are less likely to cause breakouts. Most brands of make-up are non-comedogenic, which means they won't clog your pores.

Best of luck, Angel.  If you follow the above skin care regimen and you're still experiencing breakouts, I highly suggest you see a dermatologist.
