QuestionQUESTION: Which keratin brand do you like the best? I have had 2 Coppola Keritin Complex Smoothing Treatments, 6 months apart. The first one worked great. However, after the 2nd one I had hair breakage and damage. I don't know if it was due to the keratin or the flat iron being too hot. I do have a lot of hilites in my hair. Anyway, I am nervous about getting another Coppola and would like to switch to another brand. So, which do you recommend? Lasio? GK? B24? Or another? Also, is it safe to switch brands?
Also, are you familiar with the Paul Brown relaxer? I had that done for many years before the keritin, but am now nervous about using a chemical relaxer due to my hilites. Thank you!
ANSWER: Patty,
Coppola is an excellent product, as are most. Each stylist has a brand that they prefer working with and that works well with their method or technique. The issue would not have been the product but rather how it was used, more than likely. If the hair was ironed from a damp state instead of being fully dry, this could have cause the issue, or if the keratin was not fully dried in before ironing. This service should not cause breakage. As for the iron heat, it requires a certain heat for the keratin to properly bond with the hair surface, but with heavy highlighting the amount of heat needed would be a bit less than on stronger hair, so heat could also have been an issue You may want to try another stylist for the service or discuss this prospect with your current stylist before proceeding. I won't recommend any specific line, as they all work well.
As for Paul Brown, although I have not used these products in many years, they were always good. HOWEVER, with heavy highlighting you would need someone very adept at relaxing heavily highlighted hair to go that route, or it could be a disaster.
Best of luck to you.

QUESTION: Thank you for your answer. Are you familiar with other keratin brands, such as Lasio, GK, TrisSola, B24, Pravana? It seems that every salon offers a different keratin treatment, so I want to pick a salon that offers the treatment I'd like to do. Do you happen to know if one brand lasts longer than the others?
Thank you again.
Patty
AnswerPatty,
Again, all the professional brands are good. Each company makes treatments that last different lengths of time, including Coppola, so you would want to discuss with the stylist which ones they use, how much they straighten curl and how long they last. I have keratins that leave all the curl and last 4-6 weeks or remove about half the curl and last 2-3 months, all by the same company. Rather than look for a product it's much better to looks for an adept stylist and discuss your wants and needs and then trust their judgement after you discuss everything with them.
Best of luck to you.
