Quick Hair Refresh for Swimmers: Natural Solutions & Techniques

Question
Hey Dana,

I swim every day immediately after school and have to go to job immediately afterwards. I don't have the time to take a shower in between, and my job requires me to have a neat looking hair style.

Right after getting out of the pool my hair is really stiff and chorinated (you know the experience). Is there any type of product(hopefully something natural) or technique I can use too quickly soften my hair so that I can immediately comb it and enter my job site?

Answer
Hi Jake, thanks for your question.

As you know, hair doesn't respond to Chlorine very well and so my best advice would be to leave the pool 5 minutes earlier and give it a really quick wash through with a good conditioning shampoo. However, you have said that this isn't possible so my next best shot is to suggest that you put a little conditioner, dissolved in a lot of water into a spray bottle and spray this onto your hair when you've left the pool.  You could then brush this through.

One other thing, here in England, we have swimming hats which are possibly the least fashionable things in existence but do protect the hair while you are in the pool.  They are usually made of rubber or silicon and can be bought from sports shops.

I think it would probably be a good idea to spend some time at the weekend carefully washing your hair with a good quality conditioning shampoo and perhaps leaving conditioner in for 4 or 5 minutes to give your hair a chance to recover.

I hope that helps.

Happy New Year to you,

Take care, Claire
