Abstract Nail Art: Easy Tutorial & Design Ideas

Abstract art began with the art of painting and was considered to be the one of the most interesting forms of art in recent times. It was of course but obviously that it would be adapted into nail art too. After all we don’t call it nail without a good reason!

Abstract nail art designs are very cool looking and can be flaunted by anyone. All you need is the right choice of colours and what’s more it is pretty easy to do.

Tutorial: Abstract Nail Art Design

So let’s get started.

Things You Need:

  • A base coat (A base coat is must when using acrylic colours since acrylic colours are not good for your nails. They can stain your nails or even damage them bit by bit because of the chemicals present in it. So to protect your nails from harmful effects of acrylic colours, a base coat is essential. )
  • Acrylic colours (Black, White, Orange, Pink and Green)
  • A thin nail art brush
  • A glitter polish of your choice or loose glitters
  • A cotton bud and remover for the cleanup of edges
  • A top coat of good quality
  • Small plastic pearls
  • A toothpick

Stepwise Tutorial:

Step 1:

Paint your nails with a nice base coat preferably two coats of it and then draw a design similar to the one below on each of the nails with the white acrylic colour.

Step 2:

Fill in the design with white colour only so that they look like below.

Step 3:

On the left portion, use pink colour to fill in on all the nails.

Step 4:

On the right side of the nails, fill in with green leaving a little space at the bottom.

Step 5:

Fill in the left out space with orange.

Step 6:

Create outline and some abstract joint curves like below with the black colour.

Step 7:

You may do some mistakes with the black colour, so use the white colour after black colour and give an inside border along black lines.

Step 8:

Use glitter polish on the design area only. If you wish to use loose glitters, then first apply a thin layer of top coat over the whole of coloured area, take glitter up with a dry brush and pat over the transparent polish. Do not use top coat again as we will have to use it after application of pearls anyway.

Step 9:

Put dollops of transparent polish or nail art glue on the top. Dip your pointed end on a little bit of transparent polish and pick small pearls up and stick them on the dollops of transparent polish. After sticking the small pearls, use a thick layer of top coat to seal in your design and also to prevent the pearls from falling down.

Step 10:

Here is the final look with the top coat application. Re-application of top coat once in 2 days will prevent the pearls from wearing off. Clean up any stray polish or colours from the edges with the cotton bud dipped in makeup remover.
