Velvet Nail Art: A Step-by-Step Guide to Luxurious Nails

Most of you may have tried out one of the biggest trends in nails this past year. While earlier, painting your nails was the ultimate in nail style, the past year has seen another style that has taken the nail fashion world by storm. Yes, we are talking about nail art.

You may have seen all sorts of nail art, complete with different designs, colours, extensions and accessories. While all these are quite popular, there is another style of nail art that is creating some news. These are the textured nails that are very much in vogue this year. Velvet nails are quite a rage among nail art lovers. Many cosmetic brands like Ciate and MUA are launching their own velvet or fur nails kits. While these are extremely popular and can be seen sported by celebrities, these are also quite expensive and can be an issue if you are on a budget, or are not comfortable so much on designing your nails.

The velvet nail art tutorial being shown here will tell you how you can get these nails done at home on your own. You can easily create these at home without burning a hole in your pocket. So let’s get started:

Things you will need:

  • Flocking powder (for this tutorial, I am doing accented nails. Because of this I am using two colors. You can easily buy this powder online from sites like ebay, bornprettystore or from any good stationery or art and craft shop near your place. Just make sure these are of good quality so that the end result is not affected.)
  • Nail polish (for this, make sure the color you choose should be matching with your flocking powder)
  • A fan brush or any brush to dust off the excess powder
  • Basecoat

Stepwise Tutorial:

Step 1:

Apply the basecoat and let it dry

Step 2:

Now paint your nails with the nail polishes that are similar in colour to the color of your flocking powder. For this tutorial, I am using black and hot pink nail polishes and flocking powder.

Step 3:

Make sure you apply only a single coat of your polishes.

Step 4:

Now working on one finger at a time, paint the second coat of your nail polish and dip your nail into the tub of your flocking powder as shown in the picture below:

Step 5:

Take out your nail and dust off the excess powder using your fan brush.

Step 6:

Repeat the above steps with all your fingers

Step 7:

Make sure you do this carefully, especially if you are doing it for the first time. Don’t try to rush it and give each of your nail adequate time to dry. If the nails are not dry properly, they can smudge and ruin the entire look.

Step 8:

Do not apply a top coat on the nails.

And that’s it. You now have these lovely velvet nails that are sure to be the envy of your friends and get you lots of compliments. Do try them for yourself and let us know how it turned out!
