Glequins: The Ultimate Guide to Loose Glitter for Stunning Nail Art

Glequins is the term used for loose glitter particles. This term was coined by Sammy of The Nailasaurus blog first and then was adopted by other nail bloggers too. They come in many colours and you can buy them in sets of 12 colours from bornprettystore.com which cost around Rs.350. You can also buy these from eBay, Amazon or may find them at your local craft supply store.

What are Nail Glequins?

Glequins are very versatile and you can use them in any way you want and they add gorgeous bling to your nails. These can be used as great substitute for rhinestones. They can be easily added to nails by using a top coat or a clear nail polish. They can be used on gel and acrylic nails too. You can create any look you like using them such as Border nails, Glitter french tips etc.

Let’s create a look using these glequins. You can do following nails in any colour combination.

Things We Will Need:

  • Nude colored nail polish (using Models own nude beige, you can try one from Colorbar)
  • Bronze glitters polish (using Jordana glitter polish in bronze fest)
  • Glequins in bronze color
  • Top coat
  • Base coat

Stepwise Tutorial:

Step 1:

Prep your nails by removing any old nail polish using acetone free formula remover and filing your nails if required. Don’t file your nails every other day as excessive filing will damage your nails. File your nails in one direction only.

Step 2:

Apply basecoat to your nails. You can choose your basecoat according to your need. If you need some growth activator, then use growth activator base coat for your nails etc. and if your nails are healthy and do not need any specialty base coat, then apply a simple basecoat for smooth application of nail color and preventing staining of nails.

Step 3:

After your basecoat dries completely, apply your nude coloured nail polish and let it dry completely.

Step 4:

Add glitter accent using your bronze glitter nail polish over your ring finger. Let it dry completely and topcoat it.

Step 5:

Before proceeding to the next step, let’s have a closer look at the glequins and see how they look.

Step 6:

Now start adding glequins to your nails. Pick each glitter particle using a toothpick or orange stick whose tip is dipped in a clear top coat. Also add one coat of clear top coat to your nail before adding glequins.

Step 7:

Add more glequins to your nails as shown in the picture below:

Step 8:

Repeat the above steps on all your nails and apply a top coat.
Removal of these glitter particles is same as your glitter nail polish i.e using foil method.
