Plaid Nail Art Tutorial

So let’s get started with this nail art.

Things you will need :

  • Base coat (Optional)
  • A skin color nail polish like Victoria from Tips and Toes
  • A light blue color nail polish
  • A dark blue color nail polish
  • A white striper (If you don’t have a white striper, use a thin nail art brush and white nail polish or acrylic paint. You can also use white nail art paint)
  • A transparent top coat

Stepwise Tutorial:

Step 1:

If you are using a base coat then use 2 coats of base coat on the nails before starting this design. Now after the base coat has dried use 2 coats of skin color nail polish like Victoria by tips and toes or a similar color. You can also use white nail polish. This is just to make the base more opaque. Let it dry completely before moving on to step 2.

Step 2:

Now use the light blue nail polish on to half the nails. Try to keep your hands as steady as possibly because later on there will be no room for mistakes. If your hand trembles and the line is wasted then that nail will have to be done from scratch.

Step 3:

Now take the dark blue nail polish. Apply it with steady hands on to the remaining half of each of the nails. Here also make sure that you do not cross over accidentally on to the light blue nail polish. Keep half and half for both the nail polishes as much as possible.

Step 4:

Now take your white striper and start by drawing a broad line on to the junction of the two colors. Now on it’s both sides, do a thin line. Besides the thin line on each side, do another broad line. This will be the order of the lines – Thick, thin, thick, thin and so on.  Keep your hands as steady as possible.

Step 5:

Now use your white striper and make lines in a similar fashion thick, thin and so on, in a horizontal pattern. Cover the whole nails like above. Always keep hands for plaid nail art as steady as possible because room for mistake and its correction is very less in this type of a nail art.

Step 6:

Let the white paint of the striper dry completely before applying a top coat. When it is dry, use 2 nice layers of top coat. There you have it, your very own plaid nails.

It can go with a nice checkered outfit of yours, shorts, also jeans and designer kurtis. You can decide on which color of clothing you are going to wear and accordingly create a plaid nail art like this one.
