Do you have a sensitive stomach? Sometimes, eating food that does not agree with you gives rise to problems like Dysentery or diarrhea. Dysentery is one of the most common and oldest gastrointestinal disorders among humans. It is an intestinal inflammation, especially in the colon, that results in passing watery stool with mucous. The problem starts with a riveting abdominal pain.
Common among men, women, and children, dysentery can be acute or chronic. The acute form is characterized by pain in the abdomen region, dysenteric motions, and diarrhea. There could be pain before evacuating the bowels. Sometimes, in rare cases, pus comes in the stool. This is because the alkaline gastric juice and saliva turn acidic as the digestive system is thrown out of gear and the stomach is unable to digest or absorb food. This is usually a troublesome but short term condition.
If the acute symptoms are not properly treated, it can result in chronic attack. Here, the general health of the patient gets disturbed. Diarrhea can be followed by constipation in many cases. There can also be a rise in body temperature. If it affects the young, elderly, or already ill patient, it could be dangerous, even fatal.
Mild dysentery is curable at home. Visit to a doctor or spending a lot of money on prescriptions in such cases is not required. Using home remedies for treating ailments is always a better option than going in for prescription drugs. These drugs are not only costlier but can also have some side effects.
