Imagine a disease that makes your body so weak that you are unable to do normal everyday tasks by yourself; a disease that makes your muscles ache and results in terrible skin rashes. Definitely not a pleasing thought, is it? We are talking about Lyme disease here.
This is a kind of disease that cannot be diagnosed easily, and is caused due to infection from an infected tick that latches onto a host’s body and feeds on the individual’s blood – much like mosquitoes.
So, would you like to know more about Lyme disease and the simple home remedies that can treat it? Then give this post a read!
The main symptom of Lyme disease is a red rash that appears on the area where the tick has bitten the individual. But often, the rash only appears after a couple of days. It could even take up to a month to heal. The most common places for tick bites to appear are in the groin or belt region or at the back of the knee.
Other symptoms that often occur are:
It is imperative that an individual who has experienced a tick bite or any of the above mentioned symptoms consults a medical professional straight away. Any delay in availing of the proper treatment could lead to disastrous and permanent consequences for the affected individual. The consequences become severe, especially when the tick remains attached to the skin for a long stretch of time.
The main cause of Lyme disease is an infection that comes from three types of bacteria, which are a part of the Borrelia family of bacteria. A type of bacteria called borreliaburgdorferi is the main cause of Lyme disease in the United States of America, while bacteria known as borreliagarinii and borreliaafzelii are the primary causes of Lyme disease in Europe.
The most common period for contracting Lyme disease is during summer and late spring.
The most commonly occurring tick-borne disease in the North American and European regions is the Lyme disease, and it usually spreads through deer ticks. But not all deer ticks are infected, and not all spread Lyme (3). Only ticks that feed on infected animals can spread the disease. These ticks are brownish and very compact in size. They are extremely difficult to spot.
The ticks latch onto the body of the host and start sucking the blood of the individual. They, then, start swelling up and become larger in size as they consume the host’s blood. Deer ticks usually target the blood of deer, small birds, and even mice. However, they are also dangerous to humans, dogs, cats, and horses. These types of ticks are often observed in thickly wooded or sheltered areas.
Once the tick bites the individual or animal, the bloodstream gets infected. For the infection to spread, the bacteria have to remain attached to the body and feed on it for a period of about 48 hours. The infection can be prevented if the tick is removed from the body shortly after the bite is experienced.
People, who walk through grassy areas without being fully covered, have the highest risk of being bitten by an infected tick and contracting the disease. The same goes for pets that are constantly wandering through wooded areas.
Although most medical experts prescribe antibiotics for tick-borne diseases, they often prove to be vastly ineffective. The borreliaburgdorferi is an intracellular spirochete, and spirochetes make their way into the human cells and hence, are often immune to the healing powers of antibiotics. This is because they obtain protection from the cell membrane they inhabit. They could also inhabit the nervous system that cannot be reached by antibiotics. However, there are also natural remedies that can effectively deal with this disease. And following are those remedies!
