Effective Home Remedies for Hoarseness: Relief & Solutions

1. Cayenne/Black Pepper:

Remember whenever we had a sore throat, our grandmothers made us take black pepper. Now, why was that? This is because that black pepper is the star among home remedies for hoarseness because of its natural goodness.

You can use black pepper by adding ¼ teaspoon of black pepper to a teaspoon of butter. This concoction has to be taken at least 3 times a day for relief.

Another way to use black pepper is to add about half a teaspoon of ground pepper to a few drops of lemon juice with hot water to get the healing mix for your throat. We suggest that you drink this mixture a number of times in a day for reducing hoarseness.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar:

If you have laryngitis, diluted apple cider vinegar is the best home remedy for you. Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and you are ready to go. Drink this mixture 3 times a day for a couple of days for complete relief.

3. Garlic:

Garlic is a miracle home remedy for hoarseness. And this is because of the fact that it contains allicin, an antimicrobial substance that can help kill the bacteria and virus irritating your throat.

You can use garlic as juice or just eat a garlic clove for relief. Take out the juice from a few garlic cloves and lick it to reduce hoarseness. The other way to do it is by peeling a garlic clove and slicing it into 2 pieces. You then place on either side of your mouth and bite them gently to release the juice.

4. Honey:

Honey can cure anything from skin blemishes to yes, an achy throat. You can take honey alone or add it to lemon juice and water. It is also very effective in treating hoarseness when taken with basil leaves.

Add a few drops of lemon juice to a spoonful of honey and swallow to reduce hoarseness. You can also add a teaspoon of honey to basil leaf juice and swallow. Try this 3-4 times a day for a couple of days till you experience relief.

5. Ginger Tea:

Ginger tea can help reduce soreness of your throat and cut back on hoarseness. You can prepare ginger tea by peeling a piece of ginger root and chopping into small pieces. Now boil these for about 20 minutes until the water turns yellowish. Let the concoction cool down and add a teaspoon of honey for taste. Sip the tea slowly for relief for at least 3 times a day to get relief from hoarseness.

Alternatively, you can also chew a piece of ginger to relieve the pain and soreness associated with laryngitis. This also helps alleviate the symptoms of cough and cold. The best way to do this is chew the piece of ginger in your mouth and allow the juices to lurk in your throat for some time before you swallow.

6. Roasted Grams:

We suggest that you eat a handful of roasted grams before going to bed and drink a glass of warm water immediately afterwards for extended relief from hoarseness.

7. Essential Oils:

Essential oils are one of the most effective natural remedies for hoarseness. Essential oils are rich in antibacterial properties that can fight the bacteria and virus that cause hoarseness. You can gargle herbal teas like Chamomile and Sage that are based on essential oils, for immediate relief.

You can also add essential oils like Eucalyptus, Chamomile and Sage in hot water and inhale to reduce hoarseness. We suggest that you try adding a few drops of lavender oil to boiling water and inhale the vapours to get instant relief from hoarseness. Do this twice daily for benefits.
