Flax Seeds: Benefits, Nutrition, and Daily Intake
QuestionAre linseeds good for you? How many can I eat a day?
AnswerHi Katie,
Yes, linseeds (also known as flax seeds) are a very healthy food. They contain omega-3 fats, which are found in only a few foods (other foods high in omega-3's include walnuts, canola oil, and fatty fish like salmon). Omega-3's are important for heart health and most people don't get enough of them in their diet.
Ground flax meal is a better choice than eating the whole seeds, as they are difficult to digest and can pass through your system intact. You can find flax meal at any natural food/health food store (it will usually be in the refrigerated section). To meet your omega-3 fat needs, 1-2 tablespoons of flax meal is the recommended daily amount. You can certainly eat more than this if you want.
Hope that helps!
