Soda and Insulin Response: Meal Timing & Impact
QuestionDoes a drinking soda with your meal suppress or slow down the insulin spike as opposed to drinking one on an empty stomach?
AnswerHi,
It all depends on what your meal consists of.
Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas in response to detected increases in blood sugar - insulin keeps blood glucose levels constant by stimulating the uptake of glucose into your muscle and liver. So the soda will send a spike, and the actual meal will as well if it is a simple sugar like glucose or fructose based. Complex cars like whole meal bread/pasta will break down slower and have a lower more sustained spike.
And Insulin will drive this glucose into your cells , providing energy.
Thanks.
