Popular Gemstones & Settings for Beginner Jewelry Makers

Question
I am just starting out making simple gemstone jewelery and
am interested in learning more about the popularity of
certain stones and settings. I realize the things I like
are not always the things others like. I mainly use
sterling and stones like amethyst and topaz for mainly low
cost ($15-$35) pieces. I havent had much trouble getting
rid of such items and would like to buy in bulk. My
question is, what are the most popular stones and settings
I should concentrate on? I dont want to invest in material
that is extremely difficult to get rid of as my financial
situation is not what I would like it to be and I cannot
afford to have precious metal and stones gathering dust at
home. So what should I buy for the broadest market? I know
you cannot tell me to buy "x" and I will soon be a
millionaire, but some general guidelines would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Answer
Tim,
Hello- this is one of those  questions I need  about two hours to answer! Not that I mind its  just that this site has constraints..so if you will contact  me  at my personal email box ( vieuxcarrejewelers@gmail.com) and I will happily  attach some  popularized images and  can take time in discussing the  possibilities as to stone dealers (you are paying too much!) and settings - I for instance sell  pre- cast sterling  settings  by the kilo at $2000.00 and  they are  all popular  styles that  can be modified, contain rings, pendants, earrings,  medallions, cab mounts, basket settings, tension settings and other styles that are very versatile and you can't make them  from wax to finished product for that price anymore..as silver is  over $12.50 an ounce..
So do me a favour and write me wherein I have more time to  help you out- which  would be my pleasure..do not  for one  minute think I am putting you off or discouraging you,  just  buying some  time  given all experts  "rules"..thanks
  Best Regards,Ari
