QuestionHello Peter,
I have made beaded jewelry for a couple of years now, but am looking to explore metals-- things like pounding and texturing shapes from metal sheets, and experimenting with silver (and copper, etc.) wire. My boyfriend wants to encourage me by getting me an anvil, but there seem to be quite a few designs; I don't know the purposes of the various pointy parts, and I don't even know if I'll need more than a simple block of metal upon which to hammer. I already have a steel ring mandrel and metal dowels to make jump rings, if that matters.
Any insight or suggestions will be most welcomed. Thank you!
AnswerGreetings ,
Sounds to me as if you don't need an anvil.
I'd be thinking more along the line of silver smithing forming stakes.
