Identifying & Appraising Unknown Stones: What to Do First

when my Bambi passed away i came into possession of two strange stones.
where can i get them looked at and find out what they are?

first..from the description of strange say what the potential value is... they may be worth a dime or thousands of dollars..
are they emeralds or rose quartz??...if you think they might have value it would be good to photograph them and weigh them to the 10th of the Gram... then bring them to any legitimate jewelry store...be sure they stay in your site if their valuable..get an idea of what they are...and an estimate on the value...is if you want to continue there are places that will appraise the stone, but that will cost you..
