Bracelet Identification & Sterling Silver Assessment - Seeking Maker Info
Question
Church Bracelet
I am looking to ID this bracelet I bought at church. There is no markings, but I am sure it is sterling, and wonder who made this. I am also wondering the estimate it is 7.5" long (not including the clasp) and 3/4" wide. Thank You.
AnswerHello Maureen and thank you for your inquiry. Your bracelet is very pretty and looks as though it may be sterling. Since there are no markings or manufacturers hallmarks, you would need to have it tested to be assured it is genuine. This would entail the use of acid and should be done by a professional jeweler. Silver is valued and tested for fineness - .925 means it is sterling. There are other lesser combinations including .900, .800. These numbers mean that the jewelry is made of (800) parts silver and the other part base metal. In order to determine any value to your bracelet, you would need to know this information. There are kits you can purchase online (metal testing kits), but you must be very careful when using them. Your best bet may be to take it to your friendly local jeweler for testing. If the bracelet is sterling, the value would be determined by weight/grams and the current silver market. Hope this helps and good luck !
