QuestionWhat is the difference between a baguette diamond, and a "Tap" baguette diamond?
AnswerChristie, if you have a jewelry item with baguette diamonds it is possible some of these are tapered baguettes. The "Tap" you mentioned stands for tapered. A magnifier will easily show you the difference.
Baguettes are named for the shape. We have straight baguettes and tapered baguettes. Either style has simple facet cuts on the stone.
The straight baguette is a rectangle shape and a tapered baguette has one end more narrow than the other. The tapered baguettes are often set in a way to go around a curve in the jewelry setting and the tapered shape allows that.
If you get a chance to view some baguette jewelry with a magnifier, look for tapered baguettes and straight baguettes.
I do appreciate this question. Have a wonderful 2009. : )
