i have alot of old rings ,earrings that were my grandparents i would like to know if it is real?

Hi Steve,

High grade jewelry will be at least 14k gold and will be marked (stamped) on the jewelry.  18k is better.

Ruby, diamonds would be in that type of gold.  That would be the first indicator you could determine for your self.  Beyond that you need to go to a local jeweler who employ's a gemologist.  Many jewelers have at least one working.  They would need to test them for you, to know for sure.  There is a lot of synthetic ruby going back to the 1800's.
A good jeweler would be able to determine diamond just by looking at it. With a loupe (magnifying lens)but they also have electronic devices to detect diamond.  

I hope this helps you.  Without seeing the stones live it is difficult to tell.
