Planning Two Wedding Receptions: Best Practices & Etiquette

Question
My fiance lives over 500 miles away so we are going to gave two receptions, One in her town where we will be married and one here. According to her we should just send the invitations to her side inviting them to that reception and my side inviting them to mine. What would you suggest?

Answer
Hi Frank, You can do it that way but that doesn't invite your side to the wedding. More common practice would invite both sides to both places. This way your guest won't feel any slighted because they weren't included in the wedding. After all are invited and the response is back you will see that for the most part her side will go to the first one and your side will be at your hometown reception all with no ill feelings. When you make up the RSVP include both and have the guest check which one they will attend, or both.
