My colour scheme was Cadbury's/ royal purple/ grape with sunflowers, I'm hoping to have my decorations in a blue shade of purple, but my bridesmaid dress are unavailable in grape and only come in aubergine, please help as my mum has brought her dress in grape.
AnswerHi Georgina!
Congratulations on your up-coming wedding!
I'm not sure how much time you have before your wedding, but there are a few options available to you.
1). If you can find the right color of fabric in a retail fabric store, have the dresses made by a local seamstress.
2) Source out another bridesmaid dress supplier who may have the color you require in the style that is close to what you originally chose.
3) Another option is to put the girls in the complementary color to purple.. which is yellow. If they were going to carry the sunflowers, make the dresses a paler shade of yellow. If you were carrying the sunflowers, you could put them in the pale yellow and have them carry the blue-purple colored flowers, which would also tie in to your decor.
4) You can also "accent" the flowers, dresses of a different color, etc with ribbons to bring in the grape color if you have no luck with finding dresses in that color. A good example would be to put the girls in a mauvey colored dress with the Cadbury royal purple trim, and then pull in the grape color with other flowers..
As for the mother of the bride (your mum).. You really don't want her to match your girls exactly anyways.. she should stand out a little bit more.. special.. to the girls. There are some great shades of purple that will compliment the grape and still work with your color scheme. These would be the neighbouring colors on a color wheel. This means the colors will still have the same underlying tone, but vary by hue or saturation just slightly.
I wouldn't panic just yet.. If you have an open mind and are creative or can trust someone's creativity, there are lots of ways you can 'shift' around your colors to make it work. When you get 'stuck' on having one item a specific color, it can really add to the stress.
The colors you have chosen are elegant and lovely together. I think if you were to not have any luck finding your dresses in the right shade, then really consider the other alternatives. I think when you see everything pulled together you will be surprised how it all still works!
Here are some other shades of purple that you could easily work with that you may want to consider (color examples):

Or in pale yellow (just for color.. not necessarily your style):
