QuestionI am getting married in May 2013, and I decided that the color of my bridesmaid dresses would be a monochromatic emerlad green. I want my bridesmaids to be in dresses that are different shades of that color. What color flowers would go best with emerald green?
Thank you,
Sarah
AnswerHi Sarah!
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding in the spring of '13!.
Your choice of green for the bridesmaid dresses is likely one of the best colors to work with, outside of black. The reason for this is because it is a naturally occurring color in the world of flowers...every flower has a green stem and green leaves. Therefore, you are not limited by any color at all.
What it really comes down to for you is what kind of 'look' you are wanting for your wedding day: do you want a more formal, classic look, or something more fun and lively, or somewhere in between, a bit contemporary and clean-lined?
It may be 'fun' to make your flowers follow the idea you have of the girls being in different shades of the same green... your flowers could mimic that... Let's say for example that you go with fuchsia pink/cream flowers.. you could have the darkest-shaded dress with the lightest shade of pink/cream flowers, getting darker with the girl who will be wearing the lightest shad of the green dress. You could also do the opposite.
Another fun option that I've done with bridal flowers is this: The bride carries a bouquet of mixed blooms and an array of her chosen colors: let's say that she has 5 elements in her bouquet (and coincidentally, 5 bridesmaids!): fuchsia pink gerbera daisies, peach colored roses, hot orange alstromeria, lime green spider mums and yellow field daisies. You could then have each girl carry one of the floral elements together with the same greens and fillers that would be in your bouquet.
As I state through most of my answers in regards to flowers, remember that the flowers won't last much past your special day, but your photographs last forever. Pick floral colors and blooms that will make an impact photographically.. make sure you have that 'pop' factor when you see the flowers against your wedding attire.. you will never be sorry for your choices, and you will receive compliment after compliment on the beauty of that choice.
Here are some examples of what I envision for you (you may need to copy and paste into a new browser window):
