Understanding Missed Periods: Causes, Concerns & When to Worry

Question
I am 18 years old and have always had a regular period. However, I've skipped two months. I've taken two pregnancy tests, both of which were negative, and went to the doctor to have a pap smear done. When I explained my problem to the doctor, she said that it could be a change in hormones and/or stress. She said that I shouldn't worry unless I don't get my period within 6 months. The truth is, I have been EXTREMELY stressed lately dealing with school, figuring out what to do about college, and I'm currently in a complicated relationship. Since my period has always been regular, do you think all of this new and recent stress could be the problem? I know it's only been two months, but I'm worried. I just don't want anything to be wrong with me. Please e-mail me back with a response as I would greatly appreciate it.

 Sincerely, Kimberly

Answer
kimberly;

stress is the major cause of menstrual irregularity. while its a major life event or something simple. of course ,stress isnt the only cause of irregular periods.

some times it has to due with hormones,it would be best to have them checked,you could have an imbalance.
i feel you may need to see a doctor again,there are other medical reasons,infection,uterine polyps or fibroids,cancer and structrual abnormalities of the uterus.

most likely its not any of them,but without blood work up,you wont know;
